Pro EMS Center for MEDICS Invited to Teach Latest Techniques in Trauma Management and Pre-Hospital Patient Care at Chevron Pacific Asia Facility in Indonesia

Chevron Pacific Asia invited Pro EMS Center for MEDICS Director Chris Kerley and four paramedic instructors to one of the company's camps in Indonesia to teach the latest techniques in trauma management and pre-hospital patient care.

Kerley and his Center for MEDICS (CFM) team spent a week in Rumbai, a rural area on the island of Sumatra where Chevron houses employees that work on the company's oil drilling and field exploration operations. The CFM instructors taught about 18 members of the Chevron team, including doctors and nurses from the camp's clinic as well as Chevron medical staff from camps in Jakarta and other areas of Indonesia. Chevron has nine camps in Sumatra, all within a two-hour drive of Rumbai.

Chevron aims to implement international best practices in all aspects of trauma care, and asked CFM to run scenarios for its staff that would educate them about the latest medical techniques and technologies. CFM is the premiere paramedic program and simulation training lab in the Northeast US.

CFM's unique curriculum incorporates an international perspective with guest instructors from countries such as Germany and Israel. Its instructors and students regularly travel overseas on missions ranging from humanitarian medical programs in Haiti to establishing pre-hospital trauma training in Singapore.

The CFM instructors worked with staff at the camp's clinic, developing staged trauma situations such as motor vehicle or industrial accidents that allowed them to review cutting-edge procedures on a variety of lifesaving treatments.

"Chevron's dedication to its staff and corporate partners is clearly reflected in its commitment to learning these important emergency medical skills," Kerley said. "CFM aims to help members of the medical community uphold the highest standards of patient care, and we appreciated the opportunity to work with Chevron on this important goal."

Kerley was accompanied to Rumbai by CFM instructors Jackson McWade, Matt Davison, Jeff Mitchell and Cameron Mosgrove.
