The electrocardiogram interpretation class is designed to introduce healthcare provides to the practical aspects of ECG monitoring, and discuss basic cardiac arrhythmias. Topics discussed in the class include:
• Cardiac electrophysiology
• History of the electrocardiogram
• Electrode application
• Leads and placement
• ECG graph paper
• Interpretation of ECGs, to include:
▫ P waves
▫ QRS complex
▫ T wave
▫ PR-interval
▫ ST-segment
▫ QT-interval
▫ Determining heart rate
▫ Identifying artifact
▫ Identifying sinus rhythms
• Recognition of arrhythmias, to include:
▫ Sinus arrhythmia
▫ Sinus arrest
▫ Premature atrial complexes (PACs)
▫ Wandering atrial pacemaker
▫ Atrial flutter
▫ Atrial fibrillation (AF)
▫ Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
▫ Premature junctional complexes (PJCs)
▫ Junctional escape rhythm
▫ Accelerated junctional rhythm
